Upwork - NoviceNinja - 05-30-2018
I am sure a lot of people here in the forums are familiar with Upwork, it is an online platform where freelancers can sign up and search for online jobs no matter where you are in the world. Positions can be full-time, part-time or even freelance and range from graphic design, web development, programming, data entry tasks, etc.
I am a member of the site for a few months now, and from my experience, I am unsuccessful in getting a job. I have done a lot of things to improve my profile, I submit personalized proposals, and the pay I bid for jobs were reasonable enough but still no luck. I am a beginner and does not have any work history yet on the site. Maybe that's one reason.
If you have any tips or suggestions for a beginner like me so that I can land my first gig on the site, please do feel free to share. I would highly appreciate it, thanks!

While I am not a member of Upwork (they didn't approve my account, ugh!), I have read extensively on how to try and land a job on there. I'm afraid it won't be much more helpful than what you might have already read. Everyone says you need to apply for as many jobs as possible, even ones that pay low, but being careful not to get hit by scammers, and just keep applying to and taking low-paying jobs for a while until you build up a portfolio of jobs that you've done. It might not seem great at first, but that's the way to build up some recognition and be able to show some reviews from your clients for it. I'm afraid there is no shortcut around it. I have seen people who had no experience in their field of work on Upwork when starting out, who have made impressive sums of money. So just stick with it, don't expect to make a lot the first few months, and just apply relentlessly to everything you can in the field of work you are interested in. Good luck!

It is the first time when I hear about the Upwork, I will check it out and see what must be done there. Can you tell me if this site is legit and pay its members and how much can you make in one month?

I haven't used upwork yet, even though I have heard about people making money online from the site. But from your explanation, it seems that getting work from the site after becoming a member is difficult and to me it's not a good thing in itself because when you are in need to work and earn money, there wouldn't any job offer for you, thereby making you feel useless.

I have heard of Upwork and I am still reading about some tips to get started on this freelance site. They say you have to set your rates rather low to start out, until you get a few jobs under your belt. Even if you are experienced with a great portfolio, if your rates are to high and you have no past projects or reviews on the Upwork site- then it is hard to get hired they say. You should keep your rates low for awhile and then raise them once you have some reviews, because people are more hestitant to hire you without a few reviews.

The trick with upwork is to set a profile with a varied and diverse set of skills, even if you're not skilled in a field just for the sake of having a diverse profile you should indicate it. Pick whatever you think are the hardest of skills simply putting "encoding, translation, and article writing won't cut it. You could try including Market Research, Animation, Traffic Building, Social Media, SEO, Programming, Marketing, and others.
When I was still working on upwork I would usually earn atleast $100 minimum, just for a few days work. Nowadays the best worker site is Freeeup, You should try it.

Some helpful tips and advice would be beneficial from the individual that are earning on the site. I would love to start earning additional income on that sit, while gaining additional writing skills.

I heard that the site is really good and that you are going to make a whole lot of money as you work towards getting to know the clients the better on that site. I have come to realize that it is the only way that you can get to make money from upwork once you relate well with those that give the work.

I have applied on upwork however, I have never been accepted to work. Every time I apply they say improve your profile and apply again. I first applied as a writer, I was rejected. Then I applied as a wordpress designer, and I was again rejected. Since I have never worked on upwork I don't know how to get jobs on the site. Upwork is very selective when it comes to join the site.

Joining the site is not that hard, as long as you put accurate and honest information about yourself, I don't see any problem why your profile would get rejected. The hard part is obtaining a job, I have submitted proposals to numerous job postings and never received any reply whatsoever. I also have a feeling that sometimes the site puts up "fake jobs" to never lose engagement from freelancers. I see a lot of jobs that have employers with an unverified payment method, that's what I notice.
