I watched a documentary on companies who funnel profits around the world in order to pay less tax. An example given I think was that Starbucks paid 1.6% on tax when the effective tax rate they were supposed to pay was something like 30%. What do you make of these companies? Are they just clever? Or are they causing serious harm? Would you boycott these companies?

There are two ways of minimizing tax payments - tax avoidance and tax evasion. Tax avoidance is the legal way of minimizing taxes while tax evasion is the illegal way.
Who doesn't want to pay less taxes? Let me ask you this, are you willing to pay more taxes or do you want the opposite?
As much as possible, individual and corporate tax payers want to minimize taxes to be paid. And if a corporation can reduce its taxes legally, then that's fine by me. However, if corporations use illegal ways of reducing taxes, I'd definitely won't purchase anything from them.
