I preferred being Self Employed than being Employed. Having your own job or business is more convenient than having a boss or supervisor. It has a lot of advantages than being Employed. Besides, I can have my own personal time.

If you are getting paid enough working for another company, then I would say that it's worth it but when the pay is very low, it's appropriate to look for the possibility of getting your business and be your own boss and pay yourself. It will be bad thing to work for peanuts when you are supposed to be earning good money.

I guess you can call me a hybrid.
I've operated in both capacities, and still do. I work in Information Technology during the day, but at night I work with my wife's business as co-owner. Personally, there are tradeoffs to both sides of the equation. Being your own boss is awesome, but cash flow will probably be dicey at points. In some ways, running your own business and being your own boss can be more stressful than reporting to a daily 9 to 5. It can also be more rewarding, though!
Slogging through a 9 to 5 can be difficult as well. Often you are at the mercy of superiors and others' moods and so on. With that said, there is something about a worthwhile, consistent paycheck (and benefits!) that can add stability to your life. Jobs are also becoming more flexible over time, and I have some friends who perform more task-based jobs that don't have to necessarily be at the computer for a specified period of time.
I've had some level of side hustle since my high school days.
